Barack Obama Advises Anthony Weiner to Resign

Anthony Weiner has likely taken the first step toward resignation. But if the embattled Congressman needed a push out of office, Barack Obama gave it to him this week.

In an interview with Ann Curry that airs today, the President was asked about Weiner and his texting scandal. He made his thoughts on it quite clear.

"If it were me, I'd resign," Obama said. "What he did was highly inappropriate.  I think he's embarrassed himself... he's embarrassed his wife and his family."

As he readies himself to run against a Republican candidate in 2012 - Michele Bachmann officially declared her intentions yesterday - Obama concluded:

"When you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can't serve as effectively as you need to - at the time when people are worrying about jobs and their mortgages and paying the bills - then you should probably step back."

Do you think Weiner should resign?
