Rangers to open talks for Hemed

Rangers will hold talks with the representatives of Israel striker Tomer Hemed over the weekend.

The six foot tall 24-year-old will be out of contract with Maccabi Haifa at the end of June.

Hemed was top scorer for the Israeli champions last season, with 17 goals, and made his international debut earlier this month.

He started the match against Latvia last weekend and provided an assist for Yossi Benayoun in a 2-1 victory.

Clubs in Italy, Spain and Belgium are also tracking the player but the lure of Champions League football may give Rangers an advantage.

And it is understood Hemed has spoken to Celtic's Beram Kayal, a former Maccabi team-mate, about a possible move to Glasgow.
