Today, THG Asks: Should Chris Brown offer a real apology for uttering a gay slur yesterday?
YES by Free Britney
You might not believe this after I condemned the gay slur he uttered yesterday, but I do think Chris Brown is unfairly scrutinized sometimes. He's under a microscope.
He just wants to live his life. Some people want him to fail. Unfair, but the reality is that it's inevitable, he brought it upon himself, and he has to control his anger.
I don't believe Chris is homophobic because he said "y'all n!ggas is gay" to those photographers. I believe he meant it as slang, as a generic put-down.
The intent means little to his gay fans and the community at large, though. He hurled "gay" as an insult. It's offensive, and a half-ass apology won't cut it.
I don't expect you to be perfect, Chris, but I'd love to think that you're a good guy who can be the bigger person, admit fault and show compassion.
Now that would show the haters. Kill them with kindness!
NO by Hilton Hater
Chris Brown is a violent man, with a clear anger problem, who clearly isn't very tolerant of the gay lifestyle.
I disagree with just about everything he has said or done over the past couple years.
But the consistent behavior, tone and language at least prove one thing: this is who Brown really is.
At the very least, the singer should man up and accept that fact. Embrace it. Cater to the loyal fan base who will apparently defend him through thick and thin, through homophobic slurs and roundhouse punches to the opposite sex's face.
Why bother making lame, half-hearted apologies such as the one offered this week? Brown obviously didn't mean a word of it, and those who have stuck by him through these incidents don't think he needs to show remorse over them anyway.
The rest of us? We don't want a phony attempt at contrition. If you're gonna be a prick, be a prick all the way. Don't half-ass it.
THG Asks you ... should Chris offer a real apology?
