Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said the club's new manager Andre Villas-Boas should be judged on his qualities rather than his age.
Villas-Boas, 33, is only four years older than Cech, but left Porto to move to Stamford Bridge in June.
"If you are 16 and have the qualities to play at the highest level then that's fine. It's the same for a young manager," Cech told BBC Radio 5 live.
"Villas-Boas won the Europa League [in 2010/11] which showed how good he is."
Cech was at Chelsea when Villas-Boas was a member of former manager Jose Mourinho's coaching staff.
"I haven't spoken to the manager yet but I knew him when he worked at Chelsea under Mourinho," added the Czech keeper, who will be reacquainted with Villas-Boas next week when pre-season training begins.
"He's had a lot of success in the last two years and now he's come back to Chelsea. Hopefully we'll win back the title."
Cech believes that it will not take long for players to get to grips with Villas-Boas's methods.
"We have experienced players with a lot of quality," said the 29-year-old. "I'm sure the players will adapt. Hopefully we'll start well and we'll be successful."
