Maria Owings Shriver Born on November 6, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois. Maria Shriver is daughter of Sargent Shriver (father) and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver (mother). Maria Shriver is a graduate of Georgetown University in June 1977 with a degree of BA in American studies. Maria Shriver began his career as a newswriter and also a producer for Philadelphia's KYW-TV. In 1978 Maria Shriver started work at WJZ-TV Baltimore, where he writes and produces shows based Baltimore Evening Magazine. And starting in September 1983, Maria Shriver began working at CBS News and crawl as co-anchor of CBS Morning News. In 1986, Maria Shriver joined as a correspondent for the news show on NBC News. Since 1989 - August 2003 Maria Shriver's work as a journalist in NBC Dateline NBC, when he took a leave of absence when her husband, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a candidate in California's recall election. After his inauguration as the 38th Governor of California on November 17, 2003, Shriver becomes First Lady of California. A few months later, he resigned from NBC, citing a conflict of interest between his role as a journalist and his status as First Lady. After serving Governor Schwarzenegger, Shriver took various initiatives as first lady, which includes increased awareness of women's contributions to the state, working on practical solutions to end the cycle of poverty, and encourage all of California to engage in acts of service to their communities. After Schwarzenegger was elected, Shriver had to cut back coverage in order to avoid conflicts of interest.
